Preparing for Surgery
Before Your Procedure
Please follow all pre-surgery guidelines carefully to help avoid any delays or cancellations.
- Expect a call from our Business Office to review insurance, co-pays, and deductibles.
- Complete your One Medical Passport registration online.
- A staff member will confirm appointment time and give pre-op instructions.
Food, Drink, Lifestyle
- No food or drink after midnight before surgery (unless otherwise instructed).
- No alcohol 12 hours prior.
- No smoking 24 hours before surgery.
Personal Preparation
- Remove all makeup, nail polish, and jewelry, including piercings.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothes.
- Leave valuables at home.
Notify Us If You
- Have a fever, cold, vomiting, or diarrhea before surgery.
- Stop blood thinners &Suspect pregnancy. herbal supplements 1–2 weeks prior (confirm with your doctor).
- Take any restricted meds or supplements.
Medications
- Take only approved medications with a sip of water; bring all medications and inhalers with you.

- Inform medical staff about all medications, supplements, and remedies you're currently using.
Day of Surgery
- Arrive 1 hour early, unless told otherwise.
- Bring photo ID, insurance card, and co-payment.
- Bring a copy of your Advance Directive if available.
- Interpreter required if you don’t speak/read English or use sign language
- Legal guardian must be present for children/dependent adults.
- Responsible adult must drive you home—no public transport or driving yourself.
- Arrange for an adult to stay with you overnight after surgery.
POST-OP CARE INSTRUCTION
Follow all post-op care instructions to support proper healing. Monitor for signs of infection, manage pain as directed, and attend follow-ups to ensure a safe, smooth recovery after your procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions After Surgery
Mild to moderate discomfort, swelling, or bruising is common and should gradually improve. Severe or worsening pain may require medical attention.
Typically, you may shower 24–48 hours after surgery, but avoid soaking the incision. Follow your surgeon’s specific instructions.
Keep the area clean and dry. Change dressings as instructed, and avoid applying creams or ointments unless advised by your provider.
For urgent concerns, call the after-hours number provided by your surgical team. For emergencies, call 911 or go to the nearest ER.
